Clay Kids Ceramic Art Program

Jump to Hand Building Workshop Schedule

Our Clay Kids Ceramic Art Program offers creative, hands-on ceramic experiences for kids ages 5–15. Through guided projects and a variety of clay techniques, students explore their creativity, build confidence, develop fine motor skills, and learn the fundamentals of form, function, and design.

Designed to grow with your child, our program welcomes both beginners and kids with more experience working with clay. Projects can flex to meet different ages (5-15), skill levels, and interests, and our studio is welcoming to kids with sensory sensitivities. Our friendly, knowledgeable instructors create a safe and supportive environment where kids can get creative, connect with others, and have fun while learning.

We offer weekly hand building workshops featuring a new project each week. Kids can join us every week or pick and choose the projects that interest them—there’s no ongoing commitment required! Finished projects are fired in our studio and are typically ready to take home about four weeks after the workshop. As they gain experience, kids can take on new challenges and continue building their skills at their own pace.

Northwest Pottery Collective - Clay Kids Program FAQs

Q: What is the NPC’s Clay Kids program?

A: Our Clay Kids Ceramic Art Program offers kids a variety of creative, hands-on learning experience tailored to students ages 5–15. Through guided, process-driven projects and a variety of ceramic techniques, students explore artistic expression, develop fine motor skills, and learn the principles of form, function, and design.

Q: What ages is this program for?

A: Ages 5 through 15.

Q: Do you offer sibling discounts?

A: We do not offer sibling discounts but you can use our 6 workshop package for one or multiple kids!

Q: Can my kid(s) attend workshops weekly?

A: Yes! We would love to have your kid(s) join us every week but we know that can be tough for families so our workshops are designed to be attended regularly or as you are able.

Q: Do you offer wheel workshops?

A: Not yet but we are working on it! Wheel workshops will be coming soon and will be for kids age 10-15. Stay tuned!

Q: My child just needs practice time rather than guided instruction. Can you accomodate them?

A: We are developing an open studio program for kids who already have experience with hand building and/or wheel throwing and just need guidance rather than instruction. Stay tuned!

Q: My child has sensory sensitivities, will these workshops be able to accomodate them?

A: While the pottery studio can be a noisy and busy place, we strive to make all students comfortable.  Students who have sensitivities to sound are welcome to bring their own noise canceling earmuffs to class.  We have fidget toys available and we take breaks to help when kids need movement. Families are welcome to talk to staff if they want to discuss how we might help make their students feel comfortable.

Q: How will this program adapt as my child gains more ceramics experience?

A: As your child gains confidence in their ceramic skills and abilities, our instructors are able to adapt their lesson plans to continually challenge your child to explore more advanced forms, functions, and methods. There is so much to know, they will never run out of options!
